Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipino OFW and 30-year-old mother of two sons, who is among 10 other drug smugglers in death row after being convicted of drug trafficking was moved to an island prison in Indonesia where the execution will take place.
The planned executions of the convicts last month were postponed due to last-minute appeals of their own nation’s governments. The other convicts are three (3) Nigerian men, two Australian men, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, and a man each from Brazil, Ghana, France and Indonesia.
In early 2010, Mary Jane was offered a job as a domestic helper in Kuala Lumpur by a godsister identified only as Christine or Cristina. But when she arrived in Kuala Lumpur, the job was no longer available. Christine then asked Mary Jane to go to Indonesia after giving brand new suitcase to use plus $500. Upon arrival in Indonesia, she was arrested for attempting to smuggle 2.6 kilograms of heroin, she was tried and sentenced to death in 2010.
